Kabri Hostage Recounts Tragic Ordeal Amidst Crossfire
KABRI, Israel — Yasmin Porat, a survivor of a harrowing hostage situation in Kabri, shared chilling details of her captivity during a recent interview with Aryeh Golan.
Approximately 10 terrorists stormed Porat's reinforced safe room, subjecting her and three others to an agonizing hour of fear. They were then moved to another house where eight more hostages were held, with nearly 40 terrorists standing guard.
Though media accounts of the event varied, Porat clarified that while the experience was intensely frightening, the captors did not physically abuse them. She described the environment as tense but said the terrorists provided drinks and even tried to soothe the hostages' anxiety. According to Porat, the captors' intention was to transport the hostages to Gaza.
In a turn of events, one terrorist, whom Porat had interacted with, chose to surrender. Using her as a human shield amidst the ensuing crossfire, she recounted the distressing sight of multiple hostages, possibly fallen to friendly fire.
The situation escalated dramatically when two tank shells hit the house, resulting in numerous fatalities. "Everyone was killed," Porat said, highlighting her belief that the casualties might have been caused by Israeli forces.
Miraculously, Porat and one other woman emerged from the ordeal alive. Tragically, Porat's partner was among the deceased.
She now resides temporarily at Kibbutz Ein Harod, where she grapples with the trauma of her experience and the loss of numerous friends from her community.
The terrorist who opted for surrender remains in detention and is slated for further questioning.
The tragic event underscores the volatility of the region and the personal toll taken on those caught in the crossfire.
